As people enter their golden years, their housing needs change. For many, the family home is too large and difficult to maintain now that the children have left. There are a number of housing options for the next chapter in life. Some will wish to move to an active retirement community in a favorable climate. Others will downsize to an apartment and remain in their community close to family and friends. Many low-income senior citizen complexes have amenities that suit most lifestyles and interests. For those who wish to remain in their home, reverse mortgages and universal design options make that possible.
